LEZ BENIDORM

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) | LEZ

What is a Low Emission Zone and how does it affect me?

A Low Emission Zone is an area defined by the City Council to regulate vehicle access, circulation, and parking in order to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The goal is to create healthier and safer spaces for everyone.

Where exactly will this Low Emission Zone be implemented?

Benidorm’s Low Emission Zone covers an area of approximately 74 hectares and is divided into three subzones, which are the areas with the highest pedestrian traffic in the city:
    • Benidorm City Center, which includes the historic quarter and the Central Almond (35 hectares).
    • Levante area (31 hectares).
    • Poniente Promenade (8 hectares).

When will the Low Emission Zone be operational?

After a 6-month information period, the LEZ will be fully operational from July 1.

How will access to the Low Emission Zone be controlled?

Access will be controlled through cameras placed in different areas that will record the license plates of vehicles entering the zone to determine whether they are allowed to do so.
There are 11 entry points and 8 exit points, as well as 5 points that serve as both entry and exit.
In addition, these cameras are not only used for access control but can also help protect the area or serve as evidence in case any issues arise.

Which vehicles will be allowed to enter the Low Emission Zones?

All vehicles belonging to residents of the Low Emission Zone, public transport, and vehicles with special authorization will be allowed to enter.
If the vehicle owner is registered as a resident in Benidorm and also pays the Vehicle Tax (IVTM) here, no additional permit will be required to access the Central LEZ, located between Jaime I Avenue and l’Aigüera Avenue.
In the Levante and Poniente seafront areas, the current model remains in place: only local residents are allowed to enter, and they must hold a municipal permit. The application form is available at the following link on the municipal website: https://contenidos.benidorm.org/sites/default/files/documentos/vpmm007_azr.pdf
For people who work inside the LEZ, a permanent access permit must be requested. This permit is valid for one year and is processed through the LEZ platform by submitting a responsible declaration.

Can temporary access permits be obtained?

Yes, the LEZ allows temporary or occasional access, as long as a request is submitted and the reason is properly justified.
This authorization can be easily obtained through the LEZ platform.

How can permits be requested?

Users themselves will be able to easily request and manage their permits through the platform.

If I am not registered as a resident in Benidorm but need to enter the Low Emission Zone, can I park in public car parks and/or blue zone parking?

You can park your vehicle in a public car park. In this case, the user does not need to do anything, as the car park itself will upload the license plate information into the system. However, for the time being, blue zone parking inside the LEZ will be reserved for residents and workers of the LEZ.

What is the situation for foreign vehicles?

The same regulations apply to them, and if they do not comply, they will not be allowed to enter.

How can I find out which environmental label my vehicle has?

By checking the website of the Directorate General of Traffic, you can find out the environmental label of a vehicle.
